Learning from the best, William F Martinek, I began my jewelry career working in the family store. Spending 27 years at Martinek’s Jewelers, I acquired my work ethic and jewelry knowledge from my dad “Mr. Martinek”. I enjoyed working with the finest gems, learned to engrave and do minor repairs during those years. In additional to my work experience, I studied Diamond Identification as well as Pearl and Bead Restringing with the Gemological Institute of America.
My design work is casual, for our UpNorth style of living. I enjoy working with gems and minerals native to Michigan, Petoskey stones, Leland Blues and Thomsonite. Cultured freshwater pearls, of many shapes and colors are used to enhance the natural beauty of these stones. Because of the characteristics of the natural gems, these handmade pieces are truly one of a kind custom designs. Most pieces are designed in sterling silver, but may be done in 14 or 18kt gold upon request.
Wedding attendant gifts are also available, custom designed for each bride and her party.
Pearl and bead restringing and designing along with engraving are also available at L Saile Designer Jewelry.
In addition to the Cedar business location, my designs can also be found at:
Greensky Co – Chicago, Illinois
Ruth Conklin Gallery – Glen Arbor, Michigan
Raised in Traverse City, I am now fortunate to live and work in Leelanau County. I have two daughters, Meg Lombardi of Paxton Photography, Emily Paxton and a granddaughter, Ivy, who is already creating her own jewelry designs.
In addition to my jewelry designs you will also find a few of my winter creations, knitting, painting, sewing or whatever suits my fancy over our long winters.
Also displaying fine works of art in my gallery, work shop are Michelle Jahraus- fine art, Faith Spaulding-fur and fiber artist, and Arlene Paxton of Greenfeather Designs. These artists works are on permanent display, with visiting artists displaying their works throughout the year.
